Maison Clusel-Roch
Ampuis
It all started in 1935, Baptiste and Marguerite Clusel planted the first plot of vines in the place called “Les Grandes Places”. The domain is then in polyculture, indeed Baptiste and Marguerite produced, fruits, vegetables and wines.
René and Joséphine Clusel continue on the same path. In the early 1960s, they planted the first vines in the place called “La Viallière”. They began bottling wines from the “Grandes Places” in 1969.
Gilbert Clusel joined the family estate in 1980. He decided to specialize the estate in wine production. For this he took over 2.5 hectares of abandoned vines and replanted them in the Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu appellations. In 1987 when René and Joséphine retired, his wife Brigitte joined him. They therefore created the Domaine Clusel-Roch with 3.5 hectares of vines and stopped fruit and vegetable production. In the 90s Brigitte and Gilbert began a major reflection on their farming methods. This reflection led the estate to convert to organic farming in 2002.
The year 2009 marked the arrival of their son Guillaume Clusel, who rented Coteaux du Lyonnais vines, thus completing the estate's offer. Since then, Guillaume has expanded the family estate by taking over vines in the Rhône and Lyonnais. In 2014, he created Maison Clusel-Roch, which operates as a wine merchant and buys grapes in Coteaux du Lyonnais and Maconnais.
Today, Guillaume Clusel is at the head of Maison Clusel-Roch, with 18ha in production, and 30ha in winemaking. It offers cuvées under the Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Côtes du Rhône, Coteaux du Lyonnais and Vin de France appellations.
Guillaume Clusel does not stop there, because since 2017 he has had his grape marc distilled, part of it is aged in barrels and another is arranged with fruits or plants. For this activity he has teamed up with Gaëlle Bonnefond who is also sales manager for Maison Clusel-Roch. They created a new entity, a nod to their childhood friendship: "Les Marmots".
Gaëlle and Guillaume have also recently developed a range of beer under the banner of La Brasserie d'Ampuis !
