Les sources de Châteauneuf
Châteauneuf-les-Bains
Throughout this route, you will discover some of the springs of Châteauneuf-les-bains:
- Source Lefort: certainly the best known due to its numerous proven benefits for the human body (skin diseases, rheumatic pain, etc.)
Slightly salty, it comes out of the ground at a temperature of around 35 degrees.
- Source du Pré: opposite the Résidence du Parc, all that remains of the Source du Pré is the small kiosk-shaped building where it was captured. The catchment disappeared during a violent flood of the Sioule.
- Springs of the Thermal Baths: they include the “large hot baths”, “temperate bath”, “Julie or César bath” and “Auguste bath” sources. Used since the time of the Roman invasion, these sources have a temperature of around 29° to 38° with an overall flow rate of more than 500 m3 per day.
- Source of Saint Cyr: It is located on the peninsula of the same name, in the middle of the woods. Despite its low flow rate, it was used for table water since the beginning of the last century and declared of public utility in 1909.
There are nearly 22 sources which can be divided into two groups: cold mineral waters used for drinking and thermal waters used for baths.
