Le Cirque des Avalanches

Description

1. Pass in front of the bakery. Cross the D14. Take the rue du Champ du Pont between the post office and the old sawmill. Go straight up. When you meet the cemetery road, turn left then right where the road is steep. Cross the D48 road. At the washhouse, turn left onto the dirt road which joins Communal.

2. At the entrance to Communal, take a road to the right, through pastures. Cross a wood, then continue on a wide stony path which, via the Pas du Bœuf, leads to the Champfromier Forest (1130m).

3. Turn right twice, pass the place called Purchase (viewpoint over the Haute Chaîne du jura, Crêt de Chalam, Cirque des Avalanches, etc.), then reach an intersection.

4. Go right and reach the Auger chalet.

5. Go down the small Avalanche road to the right (views of the Northern Pre-Alps and Lac de Bourget). We pass in front of "the postman's hut" which served as a relay for postmen from Champfromier and La Combe d´Evuaz.

6. After the stele of the maquisard, leave the asphalt road. Take a forest path on the right. When you meet the postman's path, go down it to reach Monnetier and Champfromier

7. At Monnetier join the tarmac road which goes down into the village.
