Le Châtelard chapel
Morillon village
Built in its current location around 1750, the chapel was originally located at the site known as "Les Côtes".
On 13 February 1688 a resident of this village, François Deneriaz, decided to construct a chapel near his home and dedicate it to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in thanks for the help and assistance he received for his intercession; he endowed it with a capital of 100 florins.
On moving from Le Châtelard he brought his belongings, family... and chapel!
Why did the family abandon this tradition? We don't know what motivated the abandonment of this private wish; whatever the reason, since the start of the XIXth century, the chapel has been dedicated to St. Symphorian, renowned for his healing gifts.
In 1845 Curate Bastard informed Monsignor Rendu that people would go to the chapel every 22 August to make an offering of wheat and money. The pilgrimage by parishioners and those from neighbouring villages was a chance to pray for a good harvest and to recover from rheumatism.
All year: open every day.
