Historic center of Romans
Drôme ()
Discover Town houses whose sober façades conceal mysterious internal courtyards inspired by flamboyant Gothic and Italian renaissance styles inherited from the urban development of the Middle Ages and 16th Century.
There are old tanners' houses in Quartier de la Presle, the industrial district where grain and oil mills, dyeing mills and tanneries operated for almost 600 years. Place Maurice Faure is a square brought to life by a picturesque farmers' market on Friday and Sunday mornings. Rue Pêcherie is a street boasting arts and crafts as well as the Puits du Cheval fountain and its "diabolical" legend. In Place Jules Nadi stand the town hall and a late 19th century pavilion under which orchestras would perform concerts when Romans was a garrison town.
