Geology day at Jotty
La Vernaz
Before or after exploring the Gorges du Pont du Diable with a guide, you can access the Jotty dam, less than 10 minutes' walk from the site.
The dam is freely accessible and its history is closely linked to that of the gorges. Completed in 1950, it supplies electricity to a large part of the Chablais region.
The dam can literally transform the landscape of the gorge when it releases water. It's possible to visit the gorges with water flows sometimes exceeding 90m3 per second.
A great way to understand the impact of a dam on its downstream environment. It highlights the circuit and cycle of water in a mountain environment.
THE visit to the Gorges du Pont du Diable is a guided tour, lasting an average of 1h30.
It is divided into 2 parts:
- The crossing accompanied by your Parc Sylvestre guide.
- A visit to the Gorges du Pont du Diable. A natural geological site emblematic of the Chablais region, classified as a remarkable site since 1908. Since 2012, the gorges have been part of the LABEL GEOPARC CHABLAIS UNESCO.
You'll visit the gorges in complete safety, on fixed footbridges built above the river. During your visit, your guide will take you back 200 million years of history to explain how the Alps were formed, and then how the gorges were formed!
These two highly complementary tours will give your group the chance to spend a day in the heart of nature and understand the workings of the water cycle!
