Bivouac in the Ardèche Gorges
BP
A listed nature reserve in the middle of nowhere: what better place for a bivouac?
Imagine... You've just pitched your tent on the bivouac site, and you're off to explore the surrounding area. The river sparkles in the sunlight. It smells of garrigue, thyme and lavender. You approach the river more closely. And there you witness the swift flight of the dipper and the circling of the Bonelli's eagle. If you're really lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the bluish (and fleeting) flash of kingfisher. All is calm and serene. You're back in touch with nature.
Under the tent, or under the stars:
The Gorges de l'Ardèche have been classified as a Nature Reserve since 1980, protecting over a thousand species of plants and animals that live among the 2,000 hectares of wilderness. As you can see, nature reigns supreme here. Wild camping is prohibited in the Nature Reserve.
But so that everyone can enjoy this unspoilt environment, there are two beautiful bivouac sites in the heart of the Gorges, between cliffs and river, at Gaud and Gournier.
It's up to you whether you prefer to pitch a tent, or sleep under the stars.
Either way, it's sure to be a magical night.
