Banks of the Canal de Jonage
Décines-Charpieu
Located at the gates of Lyon, the Jonage Canal crosses the communes of Jons, Jonage, Meyzieu, Décines-Charpieu, Vaulx-en-Velin and Villeurbanne.
A hydroelectric structure conceded to EDF, the Jonage Canal is a rich and diverse natural setting that is not often promoted. The public partners have therefore designed a development programme, which is part of the Blue Ring and ViaRhôna.
Led by Greater Lyon, in partnership with the Syndicat intercommunal d'aménagement du canal de Jonage, EDF and the Rhône-Alpes Region, this project aims to bring the Jonage canal and its surroundings back to life by reconciling natural and urban spaces in the best possible way, in order to create a harmonious and sustainable union.
From August 2011, a 17m Spanish electro-solar catamaran will offer a 2-hour cruise on the canal, which was built and commissioned at the end of the 19th century to supply a hydro-electric plant.
This walk and discovery route, with pedestrian and cycle paths, will take you from the upper Rhone to the centre of the urban area (Feyssine Park in Villeurbanne and the banks of the Rhone in Lyon) and the Miribel Jonage Park. The central point of the project, this continuous 40 km walk, integrated into a natural and forested setting, will follow the banks of the Jonage canal on the left bank from Jons, then on the right bank from the Jonage bridge to the Herbens bridge.
The counter-canal path will be reserved for horse riders.
From 01/01 to 12/01 : open daily.
