Montagne d'Angèle is the highest point in the Nyons region, reaching an altitude of 1606 metres at Merlu. A counter-clockwise tour of the mountain will allow us to discover the wild beauty of untouched landscapes.
Depart Nyons for Les Pilles along the left bank of the Eygues, which we cross in the village to head for Condorcet. While the road is still fairly wide up to Condorcet, it quickly narrows along the Bentrix to reach St-Ferréol-Trente-Pas, the starting point south of Angèle's perimeter.
We continue on to Chaudebonne, where the impression of a cul-de-sac as we reach the valley floor makes it hard to imagine the trail that leads to the Col de Chaudebonne, overlooking Villeperdrix and its olive groves and terraced orchards. To keep our altitude, we head for Léoux and the Col de la Pertie. This part of the route offers magnificent views over the Eygues valley. It's not unusual to come across roe deer or chamois on Angèle.
The descent to Saint-Ferréol will impress us as we pass through the Trente-Pas gorges. With Angèle's tour now completed, the return to Nyons will be more direct, this time along the right bank of the Eygues, with the Pont Roman as the highlight of this beautiful journey.
