Singing Bach in French... that's the approach taken by Ensemble Artifices in this revisited version of the Peasants' Cantata. This burlesque, secular cantata is enhanced by instrumental interludes.
While Bach uses strings to accompany this playful dialogue, the flute and horn make brief appearances. And he's not afraid to pastiche the famous Folia or evoke a host of popular tunes.
The Ensemble Artifices was born of Alice Julien-Laferrière's research into the influence of imitation in the language of violin, a theme emblematic of Baroque thought fond of trompe-l'œil and illusion.
