Arapaïma France (E.A.R.L)
Saint-Étienne-du-Bois
This large Amazonian fish is a formidable predator that lives in freshwater, in the Amazon River and its major tributaries. It is often cited as the largest freshwater fish.
This species is also known for its many primitive features, such as its bony scales, which protect it like armor against Piranha bites. Although it has gills, the Arapaïma is able to breathe air at the surface, enabling it to live in oxygen-deprived backwaters.
The Paiche (local name in Peru) or Pirarucu (local name in Brazil) is known for its rich, fleshy meat, but also for its thick, large leather, which closely resembles that of the Alligator or Anaconda.
It can be used for handbags, shoes, etc.
Throughout the production cycle, the fish are raised in spring-water ponds, without any medication or other treatments.
E.A.R.L Arapaima France offers smoked Arapaïma, rillette and terrine made from 100% Arapaïma gigas. The skin is used to make Arapaïma leather.
