Himalayan footbridge (The Old Bridge)
Rochemaure
Rochemaure’s suspension bridge was an important passage between Drôme and Ardèche. It linked Rochemaure to Ancôme and Montélimar. The suspension bridge is a Marc Séguin type, built in 1858, which replaced the first one, built in 1842 and washed out by the flood in Mai 31st, 1856. It was used until 1968. This bridge has known a turbulent history: two intentional destructions in 1940 and 1944; two significant accidents, causing the destruction of apron’s part (1937-1968). Without Rochemaure citizens’ involvement, its destruction would have been done.
Its bridge piers were rehabilitated in 2013 and it was restored as a Himalayan footbridge. Visitors will enjoy crossing the Rhône by following the Viarhôna.
