Château de Longsard
Description

In 1780, the new owner is Sir Pierre Verd de Longsard. Victor de Saint Armand, farmer, acquires the property and, in 1792, has the land surveyed by Mr. Gilbert; this document is the only existing historical document. He dies on the guillotine on January 31, 1794. In 1835, the property goes to the Pollalion family, Vicomte de Glavenas. The property is composed of 220 hectares including numerous vineyards and several farms. Monsieur de Pollalion becomes the mayor of Arnas and an eminent member of the Société d'Horticulture Française (French Horticultural Society) of which he is one of the founders. He begins using modern gardening methods on the property During this time, several changes are made to the château: shutters are introduced, small-paned windows from the 18th century are replaced (although some still exist), restoration of the dining room with its woodwork and wallpaper, creation of small-tile mosaics including the family crest in the entryway. In 1891, the Count and Countess Paul Claret de Fleurieu buy the château. It remains in their family until August 1997. The current owners , the Count and Countess Olivier du Mesnil du Buissson, welcome you to their gardens which they will be under restoration for the next several years. The design for the French gardens as you see them dates to 1792, as can be seen on an original design. They have been slightly modified over time in order to simplify the upkeep. Around the garden is an English style romantic park, very in vogue during the 18th century.
