The Palais from yesterday to today, Exhibition
Megève
Planned as early as 1950 in the form of a Maison des Sports designed for summer customers, then in 1958 as a pharaonic summer and winter sports and recreation center, the Palais des Sports was built between 1964 and 1968 to slightly less ambitious plans. The indoor ice rink opened for Christmas 1967. The indoor pool and snack bar went into service a year later. The complex was officially inaugurated on January 19, 1969. Over the years, the complex gradually expanded to include outdoor tennis courts (1970), a congress hall (1972), further tennis courts (1977-1978), an Olympic-size swimming pool and waterslide (1981), a gymnasium and indoor tennis court (1984), and a climbing wall (1988), clay tennis courts (1991), a vast media library and auditorium (2003), a fitness area, a balneotherapy area, a seminar area, a climbing gym, outdoor saunas, a paddling pool (2016), and in 2024 a brand new auditorium. On completion of this latest major extension, the Palais des Sports et des Congrès, then simply renamed the Palais, will occupy a surface area of around 30,000 square meters.
