Water in the Aravis mountains

Description

In Haute-Savoie, water is everywhere: springs, waterfalls, rivers, peat bogs, lakes... Take your class on a journey of discovery and explore some unique places!
It's an opportunity to raise your pupils' awareness of the environment...

You'll discover the Col des Aravis: a high-altitude hike at around 1500m where pupils can discover the spring, see the transformation of snow into water and the start of a long journey.
You'll hike along the Cascades trail: students can observe the path of water above and below ground, understand erosion over time, analyze the purity of the water and observe aquatic life in the streams.

Then, during a walk on the Beauregard plateau, you'll study a peat bog, a very humid and acidic environment, approach its particular flora and fauna, and analyze the difference in PH with other environments.
You'll also visit a water treatment plant.

This trip fits in with the school program:
- approach fragile ecosystems: peat bogs, streams, lakes, marshes...
- analyze water and determine its PH and hardness,
- observe water's transformation cycles: solid, liquid, gaseous...
- study aquatic life, identify riparian flora and fauna,
- read the landscape eroded by water or adapted by man,
- understand how wastewater is treated,
- become aware of the importance of saving and preserving water.
