In 1160, Pomboz was given to the Hautecombe Abbey by Madame de Sillans. The Abbey was built in 1048. Thanks to the numerous donations of estates, buildings and legacies by aristocrats, the benedictine monks became increasingly rich. The aristocrats wanted to ensure they would join God despite their sins
