Arvouin, a lake in the Alps
La Chapelle-d'Abondance

At the start of the hike, students will be able to see a recent landslide (dating from May 2015), evidence of the natural hazards characteristic of the region. They will also see the impact of human activity on the landscape, with the example of the development of the ski area.
The arrival on the Sevan plateau will be an opportunity to discover life in the mountain pastures and to read the landscape. Observation of the rocks will explain how sedimentary rocks are formed. Continuing towards the lake, the group will observe a smooth cliff face and a variety of rocks, enabling them to go back in time and retrace the history of the formation of these mountains.
After a picnic lunch at the alpine chalet, the group climbs to the Tête de l'Avalanche and looks for fossil traces of small burrowing marine worms, which lived in the Upper Cretaceous. On the crest, a magnificent panorama will reward everyone's efforts and allow us to observe the traces of glacial erosion.
The return to the lake provides an opportunity to unravel the mysteries of the waters of Lac d'Arvouin. The descent is via the Maisonnette mountain pasture and then to Aubourry - a moderate-sized bus is required (departure in the morning from the Braithaz gondola arrival point (La Chapelle d'Abondance).
