The mineral water spring

Vic-sur-Cère

The mineral water spring
Description

Known and used at the Celtic and Gallo-roman periods, the spring was forgotten about but then rediscovered in the 16th century. The attractiveness of Vic sur Cère as a spa town really took off at the end on the 19th century with the arrival of the railway. Antoine Fayet, Mayor of Vic sur Cère, had the water’s beneficial properties recognized and declared as being of public interest in September 1890. He went on to open the town baths in 1891. The casino opened in 1891 along with many new hotels. Today the bottling centre has been transformed into the Maison des Eaux Minérales, a visitors' centre.
Admire the original drinking fountain in the grounds where visitors can taste the spring water that comes out of the ground at a temperature of 12°C. It is slightly fizzy with a high iron and bicarbonate content. In small quantities, it is recognized as being very good for the digestive system.
