Treasure hunt Randoland in Ribes
Ribes
Deriving its name from the Latin "rippe, rippis" meaning riverbank,
river bank, this Cévennes village overlooks the river
Beaume river. It clings valiantly to the mountain, nestling on the
adret of the valley.
A land of stone and peasant life... Man's work has shaped the slopes
shaped the slopes to build terraces for the cultivation
the cultivation of vines. Ribes has also been awarded a label
for the beauty of its terraces and the quality of their preservation,
fine sandstone, soft and resistant to cutting, is excellent for building
for the construction of dry-stone walls.
A land of history, Ribes was the site of a Cluny monastery
priory in the 12th century. The choir of the Romanesque church, its frescoes
and the Saracen fireplace bear witness to this rich past.
