St Genix's cake
Saint-Genix-sur-Guiers
The legend says that Saint Agathe, a Sicilian martyr of the 3rd century, is at the origin of the well-known Saint-Genix cake. The young Christian had her breast cut because she had spurned the Roman proconsul's advances. Although, the following day, her breast miraculously grew again and when she walked up the stake, an earthquake killed all her executioners. When Sicilia was attached to the duchy in 1713, Savoy appropriated this legend. From that time, every year on February 5th, birthday of the Saint, a lot of cakes were made in shape of breast.
